Starship Troopers Reboot

~Via geeks.thedailywh.at

Sony Pictures is planning to reboot Paul Verhoeven’s 1997 movie adaptation of Starship Troopers. Sony’s Neil Moritz is producing, and Edward Miller and Zack Stentz (X-Men: First Class, Thor) will write the script.

There’s no information about the plot yet, but it will be interesting to see whether the reboot sticks more closely to the source material — Robert A. Heinlein’s novel — than the 1997 film did.

Vegas Vacation

My trip to Vegas is less than two weeks away!  I can't believe it.  It feels like forever since I bought my plane ticket!

I have to finish my list soon - the list of places I want to go and things I want to see and do while I'm there.  I've never been to Vegas before so my list is long.  Somehow in the next several days, I have to whittle that list down and prioritize it so we can accomplish as much as possible in the short time I'll be there.

I just found out, however, what we'll be doing the 1st night I'm there.  My friends and hosts, JP & Stephanie, are taking me to Fremont Street!  JP's never been to Fremont Street either, so it'll be a first for both of us!

Words cannot express how excited I am.  Only 12 days, 9 hours & 6 minutes left until I get on that plane!  Not that I'm counting or anything...  :)

Bon Jovi: The Billboard Cover Story

Around the turn of the millennium, Bon Jovi found another gear.

The result of the shift has been a decade of career-altering achievement in just about any category used to quantify success in popular music: touring, hit songs, awards, branding, No. 1 albums, DVDs, all produced at a remarkably prolific pace.

Call it the next level. But not the last level.

Driven by the intense work ethic, broad vision and rock'n'roll charisma of its frontman and namesake, Jon Bon Jovi, this band is still breaking new markets, finding new fans and remaining relevant while most of the rock groups that emerged in the '80s either have disbanded or are relegated to playing decades-old hits with little hope of charting new ones.

A song for Emma Hoolin

My friend Rachel was asked to record a special song for Emma called “I Won’t Let Go” by Rascal Flatts. She then created a YouTube video of the song.

The recording took place today at Bridgnorth Endowed school in the UK where Rachel lives. Two teachers at the school heard about what she wanted to do and they stayed late after their working day had ended. They gave their time and expertise absolutely free of charge. (Thank you!)

It is our hope that the YouTube video drives thousands of people to Emma’s site to donate or to help raise funds for this brave and amazing little girl.   You can find out more here and donate at the page Rachel set up here or at the main donation page here.

Jem & the Holograms Creator Reflects on Her "Truly Outrageous" Animated Series

Those of us who grew up watching Jem and The Holograms were forever changed. Jem had pink hair and was a rock star and she was also secretly running her own music company and helping orphans. Plus, the villains she faced were awesome: Pizzazz was a bossy bitch who made her first appearance by riding into an office on a motorcycle shaped like an electric guitar. How could you watch a show like Jem in your formative years and not come out a little more empowered and a lot more into neon pink?

Blogger's note:  Oddly enough, the two videos attached to this article are of The Misfits, Jem & the Holograms arch enemies.  Go figure...

Please help Emma Hoolin (UPDATED)

Emma is a four year old girl who in February 2011 was diagnosed with HIGH RISK NEUROBLASTOMA, this is a rare form of CANCER that mainly affects children under five years old.

Emma has been undergoing aggressive treatment at Manchester Royal Children’s Hospital since February 2011 the course of treatment ends in October, then she needs a further six months of immunotherapy. To have the best chance of survival Emma needs to have treatment in the U.S.A. the cost of this is in excess of  £210,000 ($330,855) depending on any extra treatment she may need.

Emma is very important to a close friend of mine, which makes this cause that much more important to me.  A group of friends and I are trying to help raise money for Emma's treatment.  Please help anyway you can, whether it be by donating or by simply spreading the word. Whatever you can do to help would be very much appreciated by Emma, her family, my friend and me.

Family Reunion Part 2

Friday night, we went out to dinner to spend a little more time together before my aunt and cousin flew back to California.  It was especially nice to have my mom, brother, his fiance and my nephew there since they couldn't make it last weekend.

After dinner some of us went to a bar to hear a band play and shoot some pool.  It was great to have that time to bond with my cousins after having not seen each other for so long.  But it made it even harder to say goodbye to my aunt & cousin the next morning.  I miss them both so much already!

Anti-depressant

I laughed so hard I cried watching this video!  Too freakin' funny!!!!

These Beasts are Plucking Awesome!

Check out these absurdly awesome mini-geets that blend pop culture influences with "steampunk flavor", which is about all the metal a ukelele is good for. Here're just a few awesome examples:
  1. The Rock 'Em Sock 'Em (aka Robolele): An homage to the old-school boxing toy, the maple body is cut in the shape of a dukes-up stance, while his robotic dome sits atop the neck, suggesting he's constantly fretting.
  2. The Pac-Man (aka Paculele): The sound hole on this joint serves as Pac-Man's eye, while the head resembles his terrifyingly named mortal enemy Blinky.
  3. The Autobot: Its unfinished maple body is cut to resemble the symbol of the iconic outer-space-robot good guys (with two angled, eyebrow-esque slits on either side serving as the sound holes), though sadly even a ukelele that looks this awesome won't be able to transform you into someone who can play one.

Simon's Cat in 'Cat & Mouse'

I just LOVE seeing my name in print!!

One of my favorite authors, Scott Sigler, uses the names of his die-hard fans, those who participate regularly in the forums on his website, as names of some of the characters in his books.  This is a huge honor among Junkies, the title Sigler fans have given themselves.  As you may or may not know, my name was used as the name of a Major Character in his latest book, The All-Pro, which is the 3rd book in the Galactic Football League Series.

I knew my name had been chosen to be used in the book almost a year ago.  However, I didn't know who my character was or what role they would play in the story, as that knowledge would have been a huge spoiler if it had been known prior to the release of the book.  Well, the book is out.  I'm almost done reading it already and I think it's the best of the series so far, but the important thing is that I finally know who my character is and it's even more awesome than I ever could have imagined!! I'm [REDACTED]'s [REDACTED]!!!!!  *wink wink*

After the jump, I'm going to post a picture of Scott's inscription in my book and a picture of the page where my name first appears.  If you plan on reading the book or have just started reading it but aren't past page 32 yet, PLEASE click off this page right now and DO NOT continue reading.  Knowing who my character is will be a GINORMOUS spoiler and I wouldn't want to ruin anything for you.  You have been warned!

Brilliantly smart-ass responses to completely well-meaning signs

Boy, did I need a good laugh today!! I have been in a bad mood since I woke up this morning, so I really needed something to brighten my day. I'm sending a great big "thank you" and "smoochies" to my friend Kevin M. for posting this on G+.

Most of these signs were designed to help people — to get where they're going, to find a pet, to avoid grievous bodily harm — and yet some writing-utensil-wielding wise-asses felt compelled to come along and totally deface them. You'll be so glad they did.

Almost all of these signs are really funny, but I think this one is my favorite!

Why Some E-Books Cost More Than the Hardcover

E-books priced more than their print edition?  How could this possibly be? Paper costs more than electrons, so surely e-books should be cheaper, right?
