Watch Ryan Reynolds Die in the "R.I.P.D." Trailer

~From Nerdist.com

While it may appear that someone put Rooster Cogburn, Ghostbusters and Men in Black into a blender, R.I.P.D. is so much more than what it seems. Based on Peter Lenkov’s Dark Horse Comics series of the same name, R.I.P.D. follows the recently deceased cop Nick Walker (Ryan Reynolds) as he is pressed into re-enlisting for active duty with the aptly named Rest in Peace Department, an undead police force that deals with otherworldly crimes happening in the land of the living.

The first trailer, appearing on Machinima, is finally here, and gives us a healthy helping of what we can expect from Robert Schwentke’s adaptation: Jeff Bridges’ sassy southern drawl as Roy Powell, Mary-Louise Parker as the world’s best job interviewer, and the kind of kick-the-door-in action that made us love the comic in the first place. Considering that we’ve yet to see Kevin Bacon’s character – well, there’s an awful lot to be excited about.

R.I.P.D. opens in theaters nationwide on July 19th.

Temporary Tattoos Could Make Electronic Telepathy & Telekinesis Possible

~From io9.com

Temporary electronic tattoos could soon help people fly drones with only thought and talk seemingly telepathically without speech over smartphones, researchers say. Electrical engineer Todd Coleman at the University of California at San Diego is devising noninvasive means of controlling machines via the mind, techniques virtually everyone might be able to use.

Commanding machines using the brain is no longer the stuff of science fiction. In recent years, brain implants have enabled people to control robotics using only their minds, raising the prospect that one day patients could overcome disabilities using bionic limbs or mechanical exoskeletons.

But brain implants are invasive technologies, probably of use only to people in medical need of them. Instead, Coleman and his team are developing wireless flexible electronics one can apply on the forehead just like temporary tattoos to read brain activity.

"We want something we can use in the coffee shop to have fun," Coleman says.

New TOTAL RECALL Trailer includes 3-breasted Woman!

~From io9.com

There's been one question fans have had about the new Total Recall movie since it was greenlit. Not, "Will this film make me question the nature of reality and whether people are the sum of their memories?" But rather, "Will there still be a sex worker with three breasts?" (As we've covered in the past, this is an essential element of many great science fiction sagas.)

Now, you need wonder no longer. The latest trailer for Total Recall (below) includes a sassy lady who promises Colin Farrell, "You're going to wish you had three hands." Also, Kate Beckinsale is pretty great in the Sharon Stone role, even doing a similar aerobics-based attack on Farrell, and quipping, "What can I say? I give good wife." It looks like it'll be closer to Paycheck than to one of the top tiers of Philip K. Dick movies, but it still could be a fun romp.

What the.....?!

Inside a former mental asylum, we sit surrounded by penises. Some are pronged or hooked, others sport dreadlocks. Some are kept for safety under glass.

Dr Freud could not have conjured a more disturbing fantasy. Yet all these male members are real. These are insect penises - magnified, modeled, photographed or rendered in glass and resin.

Funny TV Commercials

My very good friend, Scott Pond, brought up a funny commercial (which you'll see below) today while we were chatting on Twitter.  Now, I have a DVR and normally, I record everything and fast-forward through the commercials.  However, there are a select few that I'll not only watch, but I've "Favorited" the vids on YouTube.  Our conversation led me to pulling up those videos and sharing them with Scott.  After watching them all again and laughing my [bleep] off, I've decided to share them with you.

So, for your view pleasure, I give you My Favorite Commericals.

Heads spinning over 200-yard spider web

This is an old article, but it's creepy and just in time for the upcoming Halloween season. I wonder if the spider(s) responsible came back in subsequent years.

If you hate creepy-crawlies, you might want to avoid Lake Tawakoni State Park, near Willis Point, Texas.

Alternate Histories

What if there had been a zombie outbreak in 1875?

Or if aliens started the Great Chicago Fire of 1871??

Or if the Washington Monument was destroyed by “Potomac Patty” in1862?

You can see (and purchase) some very cool prints depicting these and other "Alternate History" events here.  Why can't I think of stuff like this?!
